Chris Folsom
General Manager of TV Camden

Chris has a long history of broadcasting which dates back to his high school days in Cordele, Georgia. Working as a weekend announcer, Chris was bitten by the broadcasting bug realizing a career in broadcasting was in his blood.

Chris has done everything there is to do in radio from on air talent to program director to sales manager. “I’ve done it all, except engineering. If I worked with transmitters and things like that, I would have blown something up. So, I just stayed away from that area of broadcasting.”

After serving several radio stations, from middle Georgia to north Alabama, Chris and his wife, Laura, moved to Camden County to work for a local radio station. “I left the radio business for about ten years and spent time in the local car industry. However, I never lost my love for broadcasting, it’s in my blood.”

In 1992, Chris and Laura had their daughter, Caroline. “Her mother and I are very proud of Caroline. She makes excellent grades in school and is a truly kind person. Caroline is so much like her mother that is probably her best characteristic.”

In 1997, Chris, moved by God, joined Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia and in October 2000 he was ordained to the full work of the Gospel ministry. “Preaching the truth of Jesus Christ our Lord is the only thing I enjoy more than broadcasting. But I’m very nervous about it, too. It’s hard to balance preaching and broadcasting. Studying the bible and working, but I would not have it any other way.” As an Elder of the Primitive Baptist faith, Chris has traveled a good bit in the southeastern United States, helping churches and pastors by preaching for them. “I’ve stayed in homes of people I’ve never met, that’s the way Primitive Baptists are, we’ll give a bed and feed a perfect stranger. It has been said, with proper planning a Primitive Baptist minister could travel the United States and never have to pay for a hotel or meals, it's just what we do. Fellowship with the brethren is very important to the Primitive Baptist and to me.”

TV Camden comes from a dream of Chris’s, “Well I’ve got to say this TV thing came about when my daughter was young. My wife, Caroline and I were watching TV and it became apparent to me my daughter did not need to be watching what Laura and I were watching, primarily the news and we were not that enthused about watching “Barney” all the time.” Chris began to formulate an idea about local television, something the whole family could watch together, “I wanted the whole family to come together to be able to watch TV.” Thus TV Camden was born.

“We’re local, positive and informative, that’s what has made TV Camden a success, not me. I’ve just applied the things I’ve learned over the years.” Chris says, “TV Camden is not about Chris Folsom, it’s about Camden County and I consider it an honor to be able to serve our community through TV Camden."
